2009 EUMA deadlines swiftly approaching

CLEVELAND, May 29 — BLET members have about three weeks to register for the upcoming Eastern Union Meeting Association (EUMA) convention to be held in Philadelphia.

The deadline for hotel reservations is 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, and the deadline to register for the annual golf outing is June 15.

The 71st annual EUMA will be held from July 5-9, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing (201 S. Columbus Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19106: Phone: (215) 928-1234: http://pennslanding.hyatt.com). The annual banquet will take place the evening of Wednesday, July 8.

EUMA Arrangements Chairman Sean Simon, Vice President of BLET Division 226 (Newark, N.J.), announced that registration forms are now available for the convention:

The convention rate ($169 per night single or double occupancy, additional for triple or quadruple occupancy) is also available for the three days following EUMA (subject to availability). Deadline for room reservations is 10 a.m. on June 20, 2009.

Brother Simon reports that the "Old City" section of Philadelphia (including Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell complex) is within walking distance of the Hyatt, as is the Philadelphia Maritime Museum.

One of the tours planned will include the Camden Adventure Aquarium (which has one of only two hammerhead sharks in captivity), and the Battleship USS New Jersey museum (the Navy’s most decorated warship), which can be accessed via a water taxi that docks right outside the Hyatt.

Another tour is the “Philly by night double deck bus tour, which is a 2-hour evening tour highlighting many of the city’s historic landmarks, aboard an open-top double deck bus (weather permitting). Time permitting, the tour will make 30-minute a stop for authentic Philadelphia cheese steaks.

An abundant array of educational opportunities will also be available with workshops geared specifically to BLET Secretary-Treasurers, Local Chairmen and Legislative Representatives.

In addition, Brother Simon has confirmed that there will be an hour-long meet-and-greet with members of the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders at the welcome reception on July 5.

The annual EUMA golf outing will take place on July 7 at Wedgwood Country Club in Turnersville, N.J. Bus service will be provided from the hotel to the golf course and a limited number of rental clubs will be available. Please use the following form to register:

Again, the deadline to register for the golf outing is June 15, 2009.
