New Haven station reopens after bomb threat
(The Associated Press circulated the following story on June 15.)
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Union Street train station in New Haven was shut for an hour last because of a bomb threat.
Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham says an anonymous caller phoned Amtrak and made threats against the trains but gave no specific location.
Graham says Amtrak stations from Washington D.C. to Boston were placed on heightened alert as a precaution. Some stations were searched by Amtrak's bomb-sniffing dogs.
The New Haven station was closed at 10:20 p.m. and reopened an hour later after New Haven police swept through the station using dogs.
Local police were called in because the New Haven station doesn't have its own K-9 unit.
There were no Amtrak trains scheduled to arrive or depart from New Haven during the time the station was closed, so there were no disruptions to service.
There were no reports of other stations closing.
