BLE Needs you on the Ballot
The AFL-CIO's 2000 in 2000 campaign is on its way to meeting its goal to have 2,000 union members in office or on the ballot in the 2000 election. As of the first of the year, the committee monitoring the campaign identified 1,964 union members as office holders or as candidates for office, including seven BLE members.
The campaign encourages union members to be politically active. Political action by union members gives unions influence in policy making, and gives union members the ability to help their co-workers and their families in ways that are not union related, said BLE Political Affairs Coordinator Brent Boggs.
"More union members in office gives labor an entrance into greater spheres of influence," Boggs said.
Boggs serves on the AFL-CIO 2000 in 2000 committee for the BLE, along with representatives from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the American Federation of Teachers, the Communications Workers of America and the United Auto Workers.
"I feel honored that the BLE was included on this committee with other union leaders whom represent millions of union workers," said Boggs.
Boggs is also a two term member of the West Virginia State Legislature.
