Brass Bell Winner

A Brass Bell for Vintage Modeler

Tom Lennon

This year's National Model Railroad Association Brass Bell winner is Tom Lennon of Eden Prairie, Minn.

Lennon's model is described as follows:

This Northern Pacific Class G is a switcher based on a prototype which entered service shortly after World War I. These 0-8-0s stayed in service until the 1950s, when diesels from Alco, Baldwin and EMD took over yard and terminal switching duties. Lennon started with an American Flyer 0-8-0 and extensively rebuilt it. More than half of the parts are scratch built. He airbrushed the model with several grimy black shades, then weathered it with a dry brush, chalks and watches.

The BLE has sponsored this contest since 1986.
