Your Vote Makes a Difference
This election season, BLE members
can put their power to work in the voting booth. With federal and local
policymakers making decisions that affect us all, it is vital to the
future of BLE that members register to vote and go to the polls
on election day.

Voting Makes Change Happen
One of the greatest freedoms we have as Americans is our right to vote.
By registering and voting in the upcoming elections, BLE members can
help to protect their rights in the workplace, safeguard their retirement,
and boost the power of the labor movement for all working families.
BLE FOCUS
BLE needs you on the ballot
The AFL-CIO's 2000 in 2000 campaign is on its way to meeting its goal to have
2,000 union members in office or on the ballot in the 2000 election. As of the
first of the year, the committee monitoring the campaign identified 1,964 union
members as office holders or as candidates for office, including seven BLE
members.
An astounding one-forth of all BLE members are not registered to vote. This is
understandable given the pull on members' time by work. It seems that Locomotive
Engineers never have time to do anything but work and what little free time they
have is usually spent with their families.
More state representation
BLE members are heeding the AFL-CIO's call for 2000 -- electing 2,000 union
members to office by the year 2000. Two BLE members hold positions in state
legislatures and countless others hold local offices.
BLE PAC is important
PAC can counter railroad dollars and give workers a chance in key races.
