Winkler wins 15th annual BLE Brass Bell Award
Karl Winkler of Tucson, Ariz., won the BLE's Brass Bell Award for locomotive modeling excellence at the National Model Railroad Association's annual National Convention.
His all scratch-built C&O 4-8-4 not only won the grand prize, it also won first place for steam locomotive, first place for members choice steam locomotive and the William J. Lenoir Trust Best Scratch Built Steam Locomotive Award.
Winkler's award was the 15th annual BLE Brass Bell Award given at the NMRA National Convention. The BLE has sponsored the award each year since 1986.
Allen W. Gross of the National Model Railroad Association thanked the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers for its continued support of model railroading.
