A helping hand

BLE Division 6 holds fundraiser for paralyzed BLE member

A charity auction and dinner dance was held on December 23 in order to help a BLE member who was seriously injured in an accident while hanging Christmas lights on his home.

Bruce W. Hamilton, a member of BLE Division 6 (Boone, Iowa), was outside hanging Christmas lights on November 11 when his extension ladder collapsed. As a result of the fall, he is paralyzed from the neck down.

Brother Hamilton, a BLE member since 1998, is still in intensive care and doctors are not sure if he will fully recover. Hamilton and his wife Mary have three children, Nolan, 9, Sean, 4 and Jaden Rose, a 16-week-old infant.

A fund has been set up in order to help the Hamilton family with the costs of current and future care.

One of the administrators of the fund is Iowa State Legislative Board Secretary-Treasurer Janet Schultz. BLE members can still contribute to the fund after the December 23 auction.

Any checks or correspondence should be addressed to the "Bruce Hamilton Family Fund." For more information, contact Sister Schultz at:
