The Pride of Division 695

Kristin G. Dannewitz, daughter of Brother Dale Dannewitz of BLET Division 695 (Minot, N.D.), recently placed as third runner-up in the 55th Annual Miss North Dakota Scholarship State Pageant. The Brothers and Sisters of Division 695 approved a donation to the Scholarship Pageant and purchased a "one page salute" in the pageant booklet (reproduced at right).

Miss Dannewitz, Miss Peace Garden 2004, is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and recently finished her Masters in Management Degree at Minot State University in Minot, N.D.

"Scholarship pageants are not beauty contests or a talent contests," she said. "Scholarship pageants are opportunities for young women to develop invaluable lifelong skills and win scholarship dollars."

The Miss North Dakota Scholarship Pageant provides more than $8,500 in cash scholarships and $54,500 in applied scholarships to young women, provided by philanthropic organizations, businesses, individuals, and the Miss America organization.

She was able to participate in the pageant thanks in part to the support of BLET Division 695.

"Over 18 scholarships on a national and state level are available to contestants at the Miss North Dakota pageant, and your sponsorship provides scholarship dollars for the higher education of these young women," Kristin said.

Kristin completed her Masters in Management concentrating in Organizational Studies from Minot State University in 2004, and her Bachelor of Arts in Religion with a concentration in Management Studies from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. Kristin's eclectic interests include violin, golf, Hardanger fiddle, hunting, alpine skiing, running, and volunteering in her community. She currently works as an optician for Midwest Vision in Minot. Kristin's future goals are to work for economic development, to become an entrepreneur, and give back to her community by volunteering through various social and arts organizations.

Brother Dannewitz, 48, is a Burlington Northern-Santa Fe locomotive engineer who first joined the BLET on Aug. 1, 1978. His son David, 20, is a conductor for BNSF.
