Canadian wins 17th annual BLET Brass Bell

Tony Van Klink of Georgetown, Ontario, is the winner of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers' 17th annual Brass Bell Award for locomotive modeling excellence.

Van Klink's winning entry was an HO scale 4-4-0 locomotive, Canadian Pacific No. 29, and was awarded at the National Model Railroad Association's annual convention in Toronto.

"The bell is a most beautiful piece which shall be proudly displayed for the prize it represents and your Brotherhood who donated it," Van Klink said. "Thank you for your contribution."

His model was based on photos, drawings and his own measurements of the prototype engine. The majority of the model is scratchbuilt from brass with the exception of some commercial detail parts. The finish is Scale Coat Engine Black with a weathering of Floquil Engine Black and Grimy Black. Van Klink earned 115 points for this model.

The BLE has sponsored the NMRA contest since 1986.
