From Gilles Hallé
International Vice-President and Canadian Director
To All Members:
The Brotherhood Of Locomotive Engineers Won The Certification At VIA.
On Thursday Sept.25 the ballots were counted to determine which union will represent the running trade employees at VIA RAIL according to the Canadian Labour Board Decision rendered on July 3 1997 to conduct a vote between the B.L.E and the U.T.U.
Results are as follows:
BALLOTS COUNTED: 549
SPOILED: 3
FOR THE B.L.E. 286
FOR THE U.T.U. 260
The C.L.R.B will probably by the middle of next week issue the certification order for the B.L.E.
I personally want to thank all the officers and the members of this great organisation who have contributed to this nice victory. I strongly believe that the U.T.U. will now leave us alone and will get on with life. It is not time to start rumors on the other railroads in Canada. We will do our best to represent these conductors at VIA and make sure that they will be protected in these major changes.
Again thanks to all of you for your support.
Gilles Hallé
International Vice-President and Canadian-Director
